Our Story

In 2020, we sprang into action to meet an urgent community need. When the beloved Eagle Valley Community Fund Rummage Sale—a longtime source of affordable children’s clothing and household essentials—was disrupted by COVID, families were left without a critical resource. In response, United Way of the Eagle River Valley launched the Youth Closet as a community “clearinghouse,” offering school clothes, toys, games, and other must-have items for kids and families. Please note, we are no longer affiliated with United Way of the Eagle River Valley (although we think they are awesome!)

From 2020 to 2022, the Youth Closet thrived in Edwards, thanks in large part to the generous support of Vail Health, which provided a central space that allowed the program to grow and reach more families.

By 2023, growing demand made it clear that the community needed more. The Youth Closet reopened as its own independent nonprofit, expanding into a vibrant storefront in Eagle-Vail so we could continue serving families in a sustainable, welcoming way.

Between 2023 and 2025, we received, sorted, and shared thousands of donated items with Eagle County families. Along the way, we certified and installed more than 100 gently used car seats and offered bilingual lactation classes to support new parents during some of life’s most important early moments.

In 2026, we proudly became The Kids Closet. This new chapter reflects a deeper focus on supporting families with young children—helping ease the burden that can accompany parenting, so families can fully experience the joy, connection, and possibility of these early years.
